House Passes Healthcare Reform: What Does It Mean for Employers?

As most everyone has heard due to the 24-hour news cycle, the House passed healthcare reform.  Specifically, the House passed the U.S. Senate’s Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act (H.R. 3590) and the Health Care and Education Affordability Reconciliation Act of 2010 (H.R. 4872), a bill intended to fix certain aspects of the Senate’s original bill.  The Reconciliation Act goes to the Senate next so this process is not over.  Initial reaction to what impact the legislation that has been passed could have on employers can be found at the following sites:  CCH Briefing, Employment Law Post / Human Resources News, and the Manpower Employment Blawg.  

However, it is worth remembering that the legislation is not necessarily in its final form and it is unlikely that anyone has completely read the legislation at this point or analyzed it thoroughly.  More to follow on this important piece of legislation.
